New garage door in Calgary, October 14
This Calgary single garage sits under a wood soffit, framed in stone. It had a full-view door: eight glass panes in a black frame, most of them frosted. We installed a modern black flush door in its place, with four long windows stacked down the left side.
The stonework, the soffit lights and the trench drain in front stayed as they were. Only the door changed.

Why this layout
A flush door has broad, flat sections with very little detail, so it suits a modern front like this one, with its stone, dark trim and glass railing above. Putting the windows in one column on a single side is what our garage door styles guide calls an offset layout. Daylight still reaches the garage, and most of the door stays solid.
Moving from a full-view door to a mostly solid one also means a lot less glass across the opening. Glass and insulated panels don’t behave the same way in the cold, and our page on garage door R-value in Calgary covers why that matters.
