Door replacement in Calgary, in October

A Warmer Colour and Longer Panels

The old door on this Calgary double garage was a dark taupe raised-panel model with 24 short panels and a manual lock handle. It had scuff marks across the middle sections. We replaced it with a Richards-Wilcox recessed smooth ranch door in Sandstone, insulated to R18.

The swap took about three hours. Our crew rated it an average job, with no surprises once the old door came down.

Why this door

Recessed Ranch Panels in a Light Finish

A recessed ranch door uses long, shallow panels set into the face of each section, so the whole door looks wide and calm. The smooth version skips the woodgrain texture. On a wide double garage that’s a big change: the old grid of 24 small boxes is now 16 long panels. Our guide to garage door styles puts ranch, raised-panel and flush designs next to each other if you’re weighing the look.

Colour did a lot of work here too. Sandstone is a soft beige that lifts the whole front, where the old dark door pulled it down. The brick, keystone, white trim and wall lights were left as they were.

Inside, the door carries R18 insulation and was made in Canada. If you’re comparing ratings for an attached garage, our page on garage door R-value in Calgary explains what the numbers mean. You can also read how our we install new garage doors, from the first measurement to the final test run.
