Find What Caused the Problem

We Repair the Complete Garage Door System

Most garage door problems can be repaired when the door sections and frame are still in good condition. We check how the door moves, whether the springs balance its weight, how the cables sit on the drums and how the opener responds before recommending a repair.

The goal is simple: a balanced, secure door that opens and closes smoothly. If replacement is the better option, we explain what we found and show you the available garage door installation options.

  • Broken, weak or incorrectly sized springs
  • Frayed, loose or snapped lift cables
  • Bent tracks, worn rollers and loose hinges
  • Damaged sections, brackets and weather seals
  • Opener, sensor, remote and wall-control problems

Know when to stop

Is It Safe to Use a Broken Garage Door?

Stop operating the door if it is hanging crooked, off its tracks, supported by a loose cable or unable to hold its position. Do not force the opener to lift a door with a broken spring. Keep people, pets and vehicles away from the opening until the system has been inspected.

Call for Repair Help

Stop using the door when:

  • A spring has a visible gap or you heard a sharp bang
  • A cable is loose, frayed or off the drum
  • The door is crooked or a roller has left the track
  • A section, bracket or track is visibly bent
  • The door drops, jerks or will not stay open

Checks you can make safely:

  • Confirm the opener has power
  • Replace the remote battery
  • Remove objects blocking the photo eyes
  • Check whether the wall control is locked
  • Look for ice at the bottom seal without forcing the door

Quick diagnosis guide

What Do Common Garage Door Symptoms Usually Mean?

These signs can point to several causes. Use this guide to describe what the door is doing. A technician still needs to inspect the system to confirm the problem and check for related damage.

Will not open or rises only a few inches

Possible causes: Broken spring, damaged cable, opener fault or a locked door.

Next step: Stop forcing the opener and arrange an inspection.

Hangs crooked or one side is lower

Possible causes: Cable off the drum, snapped cable, damaged roller or track problem.

Next step: Keep the door still and stay clear of the opening.

Made a loud bang and now feels heavy

Possible cause: A torsion or extension spring may have broken.

Next step: Do not try to lift the full door weight by hand.

Closes partway, then reverses

Possible causes: Photo eyes, travel limits, an obstruction, ice or mechanical binding.

Next step: Clear visible obstructions. Call if the problem continues.

Grinds, shakes or moves in short jerks

Possible causes: Worn rollers, loose hinges, track alignment or opener drive wear.

Next step: Limit use until the moving hardware is checked.

Leaves a gap at the floor or sides

Possible causes: Worn seals, uneven floor contact, cable tension or door alignment.

Next step: Inspect the seals and arrange service if the door sits unevenly.

What to expect

How a Garage Door Repair Visit Works

Step 01

Describe the Problem

Share the symptoms, when the problem started and a photo of the door or damaged part if possible.

Step 02

Full System Check

The door, spring system, cables, tracks, rollers, hardware, safety sensors and opener are checked together.

Step 03

Review the Repair Plan

We explain what failed, any related wear and the recommended work before you approve the repair.

Step 04

Repair and Final Test

After the repair, we test a full open and close cycle, including balance, movement and safety response.

If the repair needs less common hardware or a special-order part, we explain what is needed and secure the door when possible before arranging a return visit.

Local operating conditions

Garage Door Repair for Calgary Weather

The City of Calgary notes that winter can bring extreme cold, dry Chinook winds and freezing rain, sometimes within the same day. Those quick changes can make existing wear more noticeable in seals, lubricant and moving hardware.

During an inspection, we check spring balance, cables, rollers, fasteners, bottom seals and safety sensors for wear that can cause noise, stiffness, uneven travel or gaps as the weather changes.

  • Do not force a bottom seal that has frozen to the concrete.
  • Keep the photo eyes clean and free from stored items.
  • Use a garage-door lubricant on approved moving points, not inside the tracks.
  • Schedule garage door maintenance if the door becomes louder, slower or uneven.

Repair pricing

What Affects Garage Door Repair Cost?

Garage door repair cost depends on what failed, the door’s size and weight, the parts required and whether anything else was damaged. Photos and a short description help us understand the problem before the visit. We confirm the repair plan after inspecting the door.

When comparing estimates, ask which parts and labour are included, how the completed repair will be tested and what warranty applies. This makes it easier to compare the full job instead of only the starting price.

Repair or Replace the Door?

Repair often makes sense when:

  • A single replaceable part has failed
  • The door sections are structurally sound
  • Tracks and attachment points remain usable
  • The door can be restored to balanced, smooth operation

Replacement may make more sense when:

  • Several sections are bent, cracked or badly rusted
  • Repeated failures are affecting multiple systems
  • Required replacement parts are obsolete or unavailable
  • You also want better insulation, security or a different door design

Garage Door Repair Questions

Can I use the opener when a spring or cable is broken?

No. The opener is designed to move a balanced door. A broken spring or loose cable can make the door heavy, crooked or unstable. Stop operating it and keep people clear until the lifting system is inspected.

A popping sound can come from a spring, hinge, roller, track joint or section under stress. Stop using the door if it becomes crooked, changes speed or the sound follows a visible hardware problem. The complete door should be checked to identify the source.

Timing depends on the fault, door position, access and required parts. Straightforward repairs may be completed during the initial visit, while unusual hardware or panel work may require a return visit.

Regular hours are 7am to 10pm daily. If the door creates an urgent safety or security problem after 10pm, call to check availability. Do not stand beneath a damaged or partly open door while waiting.

Include the address, whether the door is open or closed, what happened before the problem started and what the opener does now. Safe photos of the full door, spring area and affected corner can help us prepare.
